B-Roll Tapes are used to provide television stations with
the necessary components to use your message in a news story. The
term "B-Roll" might be best described as "Semi-produced
newsworthy footage." There are generally three
components to a WinterMedia B-Roll Tape:
Words on the screen that help TV stations understand the content of the video
they're receiving. They include a rundown of what's on the video,
a written press release, etc.
Footage showing your product, service or event. The footage is edited
in a manner that allows TV stations to edit it into their news stories.
Snippets of interviews from company spokespeople, third-party endorsements,
or man-on-the-street interviews which best convey your messaging.
WinterMedia distributes B-Roll Tapes via satellite or sends
them as hard-copy dubs. WinterMedia has a contract
with Nielsen Media Research to monitor the video so we can
report to our clients which stations ran the video and how
many viewers saw it.
Do stations really use b-roll distributed by public relations
firms? You bet they do! Given a good story with
good visuals, and you can expect two million viewers or more
from national network shows to local affiliates.
