A television commercial costs exactly as much as a swimming pool. "How can that be?" you ask. "A swimming pool can cost $5,000
to $50,000 dollars!"
Exactly.
The cost of a :30 second commercial varies greatly depending upon what features your production includes. Much like you can build your
pool with marble or concrete - - you can shoot your commercial on film or on tape. Do you want a bridge over your pool - - do you
want a helicopter shot in your commercial? But remember, some of the most effective commercials can cost very little. One of the
most effective commercials of all time was actually a public service announcement aimed at eradicating litter. It showed a Native
American man canoing down a river, then walking up a slope to a freeway, where someone throws trash at his feet from a car.
This :30 second spot may have cost only $5,000 to produce, but it is engrained in many of our minds for a lifetime.
Take a look at the cost model at the bottom of the "Sales Video" page on this Web site. It will give you an idea of how much
things can cost. The only additional consideration when determining cost for a commercial is the "buy-out" fees associated
with talent and music. These allow the client to avoid paying residuals to actors or musicians. Buy-outs can cost several
thousand dollars for commercials that are going to be distributed nationally - - considerably less for locally-distributed
spots.
