COPS GIVE OUT DVDs & DONUTS
- California Highway Patrol pulls over motorists for good driving! Actors dole out donuts and "Police Academy" DVDs to say, "Thanks!"
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (April 7, 2004) - Call it "Police Enfarcement".
The California Highway Patrol in Los Angeles is pulling over motorists
for doing something right on the road - - then actors from the "Police
Academy" films are rewarding them with DVDs and donuts!
To celebrate the DVD release of the Police Academy films, the CHP
agreed to allow actors Bubba Smith and Michael Winslow a ride along
during its patrol of the Santa Monica area. When the real officer
spotted a motorist doing a good driving deed, she pulled over the car.
Instead of getting a ticket, the actors doled out donuts and DVD copies
of all seven Police Academy films.
The shocked drivers appeared to go through a range of emotions - - fear
of getting a ticket; confusion about why they were being approached with
DVDs and donuts; and happiness for getting a treat instead of a ticket.
Charles "Bubba" Smith, who played Officer Hightower in the Police Academy
films also likely instilled a little apprehension as he approached motorists.
At 6-foot-8, 280 pounds, he was one of the biggest defensive lineman in the
NFL, and later one of the biggest actors in Hollywood. And drivers probably
didn't know what to think of Michael Winslow, who played Officer Larvelle
Jones in the Police Academy films. Also known as the "Man of 10,000 Sound
Effects", Winslow aided the CHP officer in pulling over the drivers by making
siren sounds out the passenger window of the police cruiser.
Of course, people don't need to get pulled over to get a copy of the Police
Academy DVDs... they go on sale in stores today. Donuts sold separately...
